The beautiful Bankhead National Forest takes up a large part of southern Lawrence County. It is a popular retreat for camping, hiking, canoeing, biking, horseback riding and other recreational pastimes. Opportunities for higher education are plentiful since Lawrence County is within easy driving distance of schools like the University of North Alabama and the University of Alabama at Huntsville, as well as numerous community colleges.
